- An angiosperm tree, especially as distinguished from a coniferous, or softwood, tree.
- The wood of an angiosperm tree. Hardwoods are in general harder than softwood. However, some hardwoods, such as basswood, are comparatively soft, while some softwoods, such as yew, are comparatively hard.
